Project Description:
The Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) department at Royal Inland Hospital requires new pass-through Automatic Endoscope Re-processors (AERs) to continue supporting the Ambulatory Care Unit. The existing scope washers have exceeded their useful life and need replacement. Additionally, renovations are required to ensure the department can effectively deliver MDR services. These renovations will include modifications to accommodate pass-through AERs and other devices to support proper clean and dirty workflows. The pass-through configuration minimizes the risk of recontamination and enhances patient safety by maintaining physical separation between dirty and clean scopes and touch points.  Projected monthly billing to match the time line.

Scope of Work:
As part of a larger renovation to improve workflow, four new pass-through AERs will be installed to replace four non-pass-through units. AERs are designed to clean and disinfect flexible gastroscopes and colonoscopes through an automated wash cycle that removes soils, followed by an automated disinfection cycle to inactivate remaining microbes. This project includes renovation costs to establish a barrier zone, ensuring compliance with Canadian Standards Association and Accreditation Canada standards. The new area will provide separate rooms for soiled and disinfected scopes, along with a dedicated storage space for clean scopes. The pass-through configuration minimizes the risk of recontamination and enhances patient safety by maintaining physical separation between dirty and clean scopes and reducing cross-contamination at touchpoints.

This project also includes doctor dictation space’s, a Manometry room relocation and relocation of a dirty service room and clean supply room.

Phases are expected for this project and can not be run in tandem.  As well, there will not be phased progressive lien releases.

Project Requirements:

  • Replace existing Automatic Endoscope Reprocessors (AERs) for Ambulatory Care Unit.
  • Renovate the space to comply with the BC Building Code, CSA standards, Infection Control requirements, and IH Digital Health standards.

Project Equipment:
The project includes four (4) Automatic Endoscope Reprocessors (AERs) two (2) Pass through Windows, Seven (7) Pass Through drying cabinets along with various small owner supplied Vendor installed items.  The equipment Vendor will be responsible for bringing their equipment into the rooms and installing; the contractor will be responsible for utility hookups.  Contractor to be responsible for coordination with the equipment Vendor.

Out of Project Scope:

  • Base building upgrades to mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Unconfirmed or unanticipated hazardous materials. If hazardous materials are discovered, the scope will be amended accordingly.
